POLARITIES SPECIAL EVENT

MU's winter exhibition Polarities | Psychology and Politics of Being Ecological, almost comes to an end. Inthe last weekend, on Friday February 28 and Saturday February 29 between 4 and 10 PM, MU offers a full closing program of talks, panels and performances by artists and scientists, amongst whom are two of the three BAD Award winners, Xandra van der Eijk, Charlotte Jarvis, Bianca van der Schoot, Arne Hendriks, Simon/e van Saarloos and many others. They will talk about the profound collaboraties between artists and scientists, but also about the way art and design can lead to radicale different scientific insights.

A Little Less Human by Arne Hendriks
A performative lecture on lactose intolerance, Rod Stewart, vermicompost and the Ciliwung river.
Arne Hendriks practices being a new-human. A little practice in an era in which we are suspect as a species already, or even guilty. He practices in places where the relationship we have to ourselves and our surroundings is marked by growth, enhancement, efficiency, optimism and the promise of being more human. He was a researcher at the Hubrecht Institute and the Rabobank, and he now works as artist in residence at Wageningen University & Research. This evening he will try to knot the threads of 10 years of research together.

Bianca van der Schoot introduces the work of multidisciplinary makercollectiv Boogaerdt|VanderSchoot, groundbreakers and scouts of the future with whom MU is setting up an intense collaboration for the upcoming years.

A happening inside the black hole – science after clarity by Simon/e van Saarloos
For three months, writer, philosopher and queer body Simon/e van Saarloos resided in a Nanoscience Institute in Delft. She observed and questioned the scientist’s daily practice. Simon/e documented gossip and ghosts while asking what science could look like from a radical different perspective. Supported by Black Feminist Theory, Simon/e explores how science could be more difficult, and thereby more just.We conclude the last weekend with the BAD Special event. More info soon.
